ENGLISH-BRED HARIBOUX HEADS SATURDAY’S $150,000 CINEMA STAKES FOR 3-YEAR-OLDS AT 1 1/8 MILES ON TURF
ARCADIA, Calif. (June 3, 2020)–Trainer Jeff Mullins’ rapidly improving Hariboux, a recent one mile turf stakes winner, heads a field of seven sophomores going a mile and one eighth on turf in Saturday’s $150,000 Cinema Stakes at Santa Anita.
Owned by Red Baron’s Barn, LLC and Rancho Temescal, English-bred Hariboux has a late running style which should be conducive to the extra furlong he’ll encounter in the Cinema.
Others with solid chances are his stablemate, K P All Systems Go, who is proven at the Cinema distance, trainer Craig Lewis’ California-bred Club Aspen, who was third to Hariboux two starts back and John Sadler’s Heywoods Beach, a recent one mile turf maiden special weight winner.

In his fifth Southern California start, Hariboux, a 3-year-old gelding by Havana Gold, ran his best race for Mullins, as he exhibited an impressive turn of foot while motoring to a one length win in a performance that earned him a lofty 91 Beyer Speed figure–his best to date. A close second two starts back in the one mile turf Eddie Logan Stakes on Dec. 29, Hariboux should handle the added distance with no problem.

A one mile turf allowance winner here on March 20, this New York-bred colt by More Than Ready rallied from last in a field of 10 to break his maiden going a mile and one eighth on turf by six lengths on Jan. 25 and rates a tremendous chance to garner his third consecutive win on Saturday with leading stakes man Abel Cedillo up.

A solid third, beaten 4 ¾ lengths by Hariboux in the one mile turf Pasadena Stakes two starts back, this California-bred colt by Clubhouse Ride was subsequently a close third versus statebreds in the six furlong Echo Eddie Stakes on May 16. A winner of the one mile King Glorious Stakes four starts back on Dec. 15, Club Aspen has been a very consistent horse who’s demonstrated ample versatility on dirt, turf, sprinting and routing. With a recent sprint under his belt, Club Aspen will likely stalk the Cinema pace in what will be his third try on grass and his 11th overall start.
Owner: Hronis Racing, LLC Trainer: John Sadler
Lightly raced, this Kentucky-bred colt by Speightstown hopped at the start and then pressed the early pace en route to a gutty three quarter length maiden win going one mile on turf May 16. Look for him to be on or near the early Cinema lead, in what will be his first stakes assignment and his fifth overall start.
