SWINGTIME: IMPORT MIRACLE BEAUTY GETS GOING FOR MCCARTHY

Santa Anita will host a special 10-race holiday program on Monday led by the Swingtime Stakes for fillies and mares going one mile on turf. Tirupati, a graded stakes winner last year for trainer Jonathan Thomas, is installed as the 5-2 program favorite in a field of eight. The Swingtime is restricted to female horses who have not won a stakes of $60,000 at one mile or more in 2026.

Tirupati returns to Santa Anita where this winter and spring she earned minor awards in both the GIII Royal Heroine—a race she won in 2025—and GII Monrovia sprinting on the hillside turf course. A 5-year-old mare by Mitole, Tirupati this summer hit the board in three straight allowances in Kentucky and New York. She’ll be ridden by Jamie Spencer, a former champion jockey in England and Ireland who recently arrived at Santa Anita.

The new face in the lineup is Miracle Beauty, a European import for trainer Michael McCarthy and owner Mark Dobbin. A 4-year-old Irish-bred filly by Sioux Nation, Miracle Beauty won twice in seven starts in her native Ireland when trained by Joseph O’Brien. The Swingtime will be her first start since last October at Longchamp.

“She’s trained well. We’re just looking to go ahead and get her started and see where she fits,” McCarthy said. “Hopefully something at (next month’s) Hollywood Turf Festival at Del Mar.”

Kazushi Kimura will ride Miracle Beauty in her U.S. debut.

Trainer Phil D’Amato has two entered including Slick, a 4-year-old Irish-bred filly by Oasis Dream. Slick hasn’t started since December in the GI American Oaks going 1 ¼ miles on turf when she finished 10th in an 11-horse field at Santa Anita. D’Amato said Slick was sidelined because of an illness earlier this year. She is the 3-1 second choice on the morning line and will have Umberto Rispoli aboard.

First post Monday is at 1 p.m. PT. The Swingtime goes as the seventh race at approximately 4 p.m. The field in post position order: Innovative, Joel Rosario (6-1); Miracle Beauty, Kazushi Kimura (10-1); Slick, Umberto Rispoli (3-1); Antifona, Juan Hernandez (15-1); Firenze Favor, Drayden Van Dyke (8-1); Tirupati, Jamie Spencer (5-2); Pura Vida Princess, Emisael Jaramillo (5-1); Bit’s Tiger Magic, Ramon Vazquez (5-1).

DOUBLE CARRYOVER OF $99K IN SUNDAY’S $2 PICK 6

Track officials estimate a total pool of $700,000 for Santa Anita’s $2 Pick 6. As for the Sunset Pick 6, it begins at 12:30 p.m. PT with the seventh race from Gulfstream Park.

SUNDAY’S CALIFORNIA DISTAFF MOVED TO FLAT TURF COURSE

Due to rain, Sunday’s California Distaff Handicap has been moved from the hillside turf course to the flat turf course and remains at 6 ½ furlongs.

The California Distaff Handicap is for fillies and mares bred or sired in California. It goes as the ninth race at 5:09 p.m. PT. The 8-5 favorite and 128-pound highweight is Grand Slam Smile, a 10-time stakes winner trained by Sean McCarthy. She’ll be ridden by Juan Hernandez.

While a field of 11 was entered, four horses were scratched from the California Distaff. They are Bit’s Tiger Magic, who is entered back in Monday’s Swingtime Stakes; Still Unwritten, Wink and a Grin and Quick Kate.
