WILD LIKE THE WEST, EASTERN SHIPPER ABIGAIL AMONG WIDE-OPEN GROUP OF 3-YEAR-OLD FILLIES ENTERED IN SUNDAY’S PROVIDENCIA STAKES GOING 1 1/8 MILES ON TURF ON CLOSING DAY OF THE CLASSIC MEET AT SANTA ANITA PARK

ARCADIA, CA (March 31, 2026)—Featured on closing day of the Santa Anita Classic Meet this Sunday is the $100,000 Providencia Stakes, which attracted a wide-open group of 3-year-old fillies that will battle over 1 1/8 miles on turf. The Providencia is part of a 10-race card that closes out the 2025-26 Classic Meet at Santa Anita Park. There will be mandatory payouts in all pari-mutuel pools including the $2 Pick 6, $1 Sunset Pick Six, $1 Coast-to-Coast Pick 5 and $1 Super High 5. First post is 12 p.m. PT.

In the Providencia, Wild Like the West will look for a stakes breakthrough for trainer Richard Baltas. Two starts back in the Blue Norther Stakes going one mile on turf, Wild Like the West had the lead in the stretch but was overtaken late to lose by a neck. The daughter of Into Mischief returned in an allowance, also at one mile on turf, on Feb. 6 when she again led in the stretch before being outfinished to lose by a half-length.

A $150,00 auction buy as a yearling, Wild Like the West is owned by Sayjay Racing. She’ll have regular rider Juan Hernandez aboard.

Top turf trainer Phil D’Amato will send out the pair of Darya and Inbox, who are each exiting respective maiden wins going this same 1 1/8-mile trip.

Darya, an Irish-bred daughter of Persian King, earned her diploma March 21 when rallying from off the pace under Antonio Fresu and winning comfortably by 2 ¾-lengths. Darya will again have Fresu aboard on Sunday. Darya, who made one start in Ireland in September before coming stateside, is owned by Little Red Feather Racing and Sterling Stables.

Inbox graduated at this same trip on Jan. 24, also when coming from off the pace. Jockey Tiago Pereira was aboard for win and will again be in the irons on Sunday. Bred in England, the daughter of Ectot like her stablemate also made one start in Ireland before being imported. She is owned by Hopeless Stables, Little Red Feather Racing, Sterling Stables and Marsha Naify.

The new face in the lineup is Abigail, who comes west from South Florida for trainer Miguel Clement. By Constitution, Abigail raced this winter at Tampa Bay Downs where she broke her maiden in December, returned to win an allowance in February, then finished fifth in a field of 11 in the GIII Florida Oaks on March 7. Owned by Waterville Lake Stables, Abigail will be ridden by Hector Berrios in her local debut.

Following the close of the Classic Meet, Santa Anita will take a one-week break before live racing resumes with the start of the Hollywood Meet on Friday, April 17.
