JOCKEY QUOTES

EDWIN MALDONADO, MAN O ROSE, WINNER: “It was perfect. I knew somehow I would be sitting second. I thought Book Smart would be on the lead, however the other horse (Flyover) took the lead very fast. My horse relaxed, like he almost never does. Once he relaxed, I knew I had a lot of horse turning for home. It was just a matter of crossing the (dirt) path and then guiding him straight. I was just riding. I knew Lovesick Blues would be the only horse really closing. I was trying to get as much distance from him as I could without going too fast. It turned out to be perfect.”

TRAINER QUOTES

JEFF MULLINS, MAN O ROSE, WINNER: “He is a special racehorse. We were a little worried about the downhill course because he is just funny about horses being around him. One side or the other. I told Edwin, ‘You’re going to have horses all around you today, so you better have a plan.’ But it worked out good. He had a target and moved into the clear and got the job done. “You just have to keep him calm. He can get a little strong. Workouts in the morning he is always in the middle of the racetrack, so he won’t hook any company, because he will go way too fast. “He’s a Cal-bred, so whatever comes next for Cal-breds, he’ll be in it.”

LIBRADO BAROCIO, LOVESICK BLUES, SECOND: “The whole objective was to get him to close. Today he had good weight, maybe a little on the heavy side, but this should cut him down to the right fighting weight. He ran good.”
