$ 175,000 CALIFORNIA CHROME CAL CUP DERBY QUOTES

JOCKEY QUOTES

TIAGO PEREIRA, WHISKYGINANDBRANDY, WINNER: “The last time at Los Alamitos, the horse was a little nervous at the gate. I climbed up, but my horse was nervous. Today I got in a good position outside, and I could see Shea Brennan coming and he tried to find open space. There was a little situation of a bump on my horse that caused him to shift out of stride. I claimed foul because my horse was bumped and it cost me the race. Thank God I won the race.”

TRAINER QUOTES

STEVE KNAPP, WHISKYGINANDBRANDY, WINNER: “My horse had a lot of trouble in his last start. He got scared in that race and he has really been training great since that race. I knew he was ready for another great race. I saw the other horse knock my horse off stride. That’s a fantastic horse (Shea Brennan) too, but that bump clearly decided the race.”

OWNER QUOTES

TERRY LOVINGIER, BREEDER/PART-OWNER WHISKYGINANDBRANDY, WINNER: “Nick Alexander (owner and breeder of Shea Brennan, DQ placed second) is a very good friend of mine and nobody wants to win a race like that. He’s got a very good horse and I think they made the right call. I think we were going to win the race. It is difficult to win a race like that because he is such a good friend and a great man for all of horse racing.

“We lived in California to breed horses, for Cal-breds. It is a special day because Don Valpredo, was a mentor to me. I loved him and we are going to miss him.”

NOTES: The winning owners are Terry C. Lovinger (Breeder), Victor Flores and Anthony Chacon.
