UNBEATEN FILLY DUTY BOUND COMES WEST FOR STAKES DEBUT IN THE GRADE III ZUMA BEACH FOR 2-YEAR-OLDS GOING ONE MILE ON TURF SUNDAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

ARCADIA, CA (Sept. 29, 2026)—Trainer Jack Sisterson is shipping unbeaten 2-year-old filly Duty Bound to Santa Anita from out of state for her stakes debut on Sunday. But rather than facing fillies in the GIII, $100,000 Surfer Girl at one mile on turf, Duty Bound is instead entered against males in the Grade III, $100,000 Zuma Beach, also at one mile on turf. The Zuma Beach and Surfer Girl are both part of a 10-race program set for Sunday at Santa Anita. First post is 1 p.m. PT.

Duty Bound, by Jack Christopher, is a supplemental entry for the Zuma Beach after being originally nominated to the Surfer Girl. She broke her maiden sprinting 5 ½ furlongs on turf at Colonial Downs on July 26, then came right back on Aug. 29 at Kentucky Downs to win a 6 ½-furlong allowance at Kentucky Downs that was restricted to 2-year-old fillies who were sold or did not meet their reserve at the 2025 Keeneland September yearling sale. Duty Bound sold for $100,000 at that auction. Owned by Qatar Racing, Duty Bound will have the services of jockey Emisael Jaramillo for her first stakes start.

Off in the Corner was entered by Peter Miller after also being entered in Saturday’s Speakeasy Stakes for 2-year-olds at five furlongs on turf. Miller has until scratch time on Saturday morning to decide whether Off in the Corner sprints on Saturday or goes two turns a day later.

By Karakontie, Off in the Corner was an impressive debut winner sprinting five furlongs on turf at Del Mar on Aug. 1. He then stretched out to one mile for the GIII Del Mar Juvenile Turf on Sept. 5. Off in the Corner pressed the pace that day for the opening half mile, took the lead on the second turn and led by four lengths at the eighth pole, but then was run down in the final furlong to finish third by 1 ¾ lengths. He is owned by Altamira Racing Stable, Gary Barber and Tom Kagele. Joel Rosario will ride if Miller opts for the Zuma Beach with Off in the Corner.

Trainer Michael McCarthy entered debut winners Maxify and Repo Man.

Maxify, by Justify, graduated at first asking going one mile on turf when coming from off the pace on Sept. 4. Owned and bred by Jay W. Bligh, Maxify will be ridden by Juan Hernandez.

R__epo Man__ won his debut going five furlongs on turf on Aug. 27 at Del Mar. He settled in mid-pack that day and rallied to win going away by 1 ½ lengths. From the first crop of two-time Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Golden Pal, Repo Man was purchased earlier this year by owner Amerman Racing for $235,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale. He’ll again be ridden by Umberto Rispoli.
