STREAKING PROLETARIAT LEADS THE GRADE II TWILIGHT DERBY GOING 1 1/8 MILES ON TURF SUNDAY ON CLOSING DAY OF THE SANTA ANITA AUTUMN MEET
There will be mandatory payouts in all pari-mutuel pools on closing day
ARCADIA, CA (Oct. 27, 2026)—Proletariat, a winner of three straight races including the GII Del Mar Derby last time out in August, will look to continue his winning ways for trainer Jeff Mullins Sunday in the Grade II, $200,000 Twilight Derby going 1 1/8 miles on turf on Sunday at Santa Anita Park. With Sunday being closing day of the Autumn Meet, there will be mandatory payouts in all pari-mutuel pools which include the $2 Pick 6, $1 Place Pick 8 and $1 Super High 5. First post is at 12 p.m. PT for a 10-race card.
Proletariat, a son of Raging Bull, won the Del Mar Derby after previously winning the Oceanside Stakes going one mile on turf at Santa Anita. In both victories, Proletariat went right to the lead under Kyle Frey and was never headed on his way to the wire. Frey will again be in the irons in the Twilight Derby. Proletariat is owned by Dutch Girl Holdings and Irving Ventures and sports a record of 7: 4-0-3 with $389,400 in earnings. His win streak began with a first-level allowance victory at Santa Anita going six furlongs on turf in May.
Grade III winner Unrivaled Time finished fourth in Del Mar Derby, beaten 2 ¼ lengths by Proletariat after mounting a rally from last under Armando Ayuso. On Sunday, he will have Hall of Famer Joel Rosario in the irons. Unrivaled Time is trained by Leonard Powell for owners Innergy Racing Corp. and Alfred Pais. Last year, the colt by Not This Time won the GIII Cecil B. DeMille at one mile on turf at Del Mar. He added a second stakes victory earlier this year in May at Santa Anita when beating fellow California-breds in the Snow Chief Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on turf. Unrivaled Time enters with a record of 8: 3-0-1 with $203,600 in earnings. Trainer Phil D’Amato has a pair entered in Melismatic and Path To Power.
Melismatic, an Irish-bred colt by Space Blues, checked in fifth in the Del Mar Derby. That effort followed a maiden win at Santa Anita in May and first-level allowance victory next out at Del Mar in July. Owned by Wells T. Watson, Melismatic will have regular rider Kazushi Kimura aboard. He is 6: 2-1-1 with $106,242 in earnings.
Path To Power will be making his stakes debut. Bred in England, where he made one start in February, the gelding by Time Test broke his maiden in his second U.S. start in August at Del Mar. He then came back to finish second as the favorite in a first-level allowance on Sept. 5, also at Del Mar. Both races were at 1 1/8 miles on turf. Path To Power is owned by CYBT, McLean Racing Stables, Strand Beach and partners. Jockey Juan Hernandez was aboard for both his victories and again has the call.
