SPECTACULAR SANTA ANITA DERBY DAY CARD SATURDAY AND MANDATORY PAYOUTS SUNDAY PUT A BOW ON CLASSIC MEET AT SANTA ANITA; LIVE RACING RESUMES APRIL 18 WITH START OF 29-DAY HOLLYWOOD MEET

ARCADIA, CA (April 5, 2025)— A tremendous 12-race card for Santa Anita Derby Day on Saturday and another expansive 12-race card on Sunday featuring big fields and mandatory payouts will put a bow on what’s been a highly successful Classic Meet at historic Santa Anita Park. After Sunday, Santa Anita will go on an 11-day break before live racing resumes on Friday, April 18 with the start of the 29-day Hollywood Meet.

Saturday’s racing action kicks off at 12 p.m. The 88th running of the Grade I Santa Anita Derby, which also serves as a key qualifier for the Kentucky Derby, goes as the 10th race on the card at approximately 4:45 p.m. PT. This year’s edition of the $500,000 Santa Anita Derby is a particularly star-studded affair featuring early Kentucky Derby favorite Journalism and Citizen Bull, last year’s 2-year-old male champion trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert who will look to add to his more than $1.4 million in career earnings.

Fans in the greater Los Angeles area and beyond are encouraged to come out to famed Santa Anita Park, which is celebrating its 90th year of operation, and enjoy a day of world-class Thoroughbred racing and family entertainment. In addition to the action on the track, Santa Anita’s expansive Infield will host a Spring Carnival with rides and attractions, a Craft Brew Festival on the trackside apron, a Santa Anita Derby party in the plush and iconic Chandelier Room, live musical entertainment and much more.

General admission tickets for Santa Anita Derby Day are available online for just $10 at santaanita.com. Walk-up general admission tickets will be available for $20. For entry into the Infield, tickets are just $5.

On Sunday Santa Anita’s Infield will host Fiesta De Santa Anita, featuring Lucha Libra and live music from Banda Vallarta, Los Pumas De Jalisco and Mariachi Amor De Mexico. First post on Sunday is at 12:30 p.m. With it being closing day of the Classic Meet, there will be mandatory payouts in the $2 Pick Six, the 50-cent early Pick 5, 50-cent late Pick 5 and $1 Super High 5 on the 12th and final race. The feature race is the $100,000 John Shear Stakes for 3-year-olds sprinting about 6 ½ furlongs on Santa Anita’s unique hillside turf course.
