HIGH-PRICED 3-YEAR-OLDS DEBUT IN SUNDAY MAIDEN HEAT

Trainers Bob Baffert, Michael McCarthy and Richard Mandella will all unveil promising 3-year-old prospects Sunday in the seventh race, a 6 ½-furlong maiden event on the main track.

Set to debut for Baffert is Newton, a son of Munnings who commanded $975,000 at the 2024 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale. Newton is out of the Bernardini mare Secret Jewel and is owned by an extensive ownership group led by SF Racing, Starlight Racing and Madaket Stables. Installed as a tepid 3-1 favorite on the morning line, Newton has worked eight times since mid-April for his unveiling. Last Saturday, he completed his major preparations when drilling five furlongs in a quick 59.4 seconds. Newton will have the services of jockey Emisael Jaramillo for his debut.

Also set to go for Baffert is Sir Davis, a second-time starter by Justify who sold for $450,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale. In his debut going six furlongs on May 8, Sir Davis, who shares similar ownership with Newton, was off slowly and ran on to be second. He is the 7-2 second choice on the morning line and will have Juan Hernandez aboard.

McCarthy will send out Roast, a son of Practical Joke who sold for $725,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September yearling sale. Out of the Orientate mare Golden Scarf, Roast is owned by Bridlewood Farm, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Robert V. LaPenta. Last Sunday, Roast signaled his readiness when working a sharp four furlongs from the gate in 47.0 seconds. It was the second-fastest of 83 works at the distance that day. Roast is 5-1 on the morning line and will be ridden by Joel Rosario.

Mandella will saddle first-time starter Peace On Earth, a son of Blame out of the Violence mare Burning in Air. He is a homebred for Bo Hirsch. Peace On Earth was produced by the Violence mare Burning in Air. Ten days ago, Peace On Earth fired a bullet when working five furlongs from the gate. He then came back on Monday with a four-furlong work completed in 47.2 seconds. It was the second-fastest of 47 works at the distance. Peace On Earth drew the rail and will have Mike Smith aboard.

First post Sunday is at 1 p.m. PT for a 10-race card. The seventh race goes at 4:06 p.m. The field in post position order: Peace On Earth, Mike Smith (10-1); Gettingawaywithit, Abel Lezcano (30-1); Roast, Joel Rosario (5-1); Sir Davis, Juan Hernandez, (7-2); Duke Silver, Antonio Fresu (4-1); Newton, Emisael Jaramillo (3-1); Practical Jack, Edwin Maldonado (8-1); Yautown, Ricky Gonzalez (12-1); Moon, Victor Espinoza (8-1).

$2.1 MILLION FLIGHTLINE-BAR OF GOLD COLT NAMED INSHALLAH

The 2-year-old colt by Flightline out of Breeders’ Cup winner Bar of Gold who sold for $2.1 million to top last month’s Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale has been named Inshallah, trainer John Sadler reported. Inshallah is an Arabic term that translates to “God willing” or “if God wills.”

Inshallah is owned by KAS Stables, which is part of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and sons KAS Racing. He was bred in New York by Chester Broman and Mary R. Broman, who campaigned 2017 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint winner Bar of Gold. A daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, Bar of Gold’s offspring also include Grade III winner Coinage, who is by Flightline’s sire, Tapit.

Inshallah is from the first crop of Flightline, the undefeated 2022 Horse of the Year who Sadler also trained. The brilliant Flightline was a perfect 6-for-6 with four Grade I wins including the 2022 Breeders’ Cup Classic. He stood this breeding season at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky where he commanded $125,000 per cover.

Inshallah has been galloping daily at Santa Anita since arriving from the sale on May 20. Sadler said he’s scheduled to have his first work at Santa Anita next week.
