MOHAVEN RUNS THEM OFF THEIR FEET IN THE EVENING JEWEL STAKES PRESENTED BY THOROUGHBRED AFTERCARE ALLIANCE FOR CALIFORNIA-BRED 3-YEAR-OLD FILLIES GOING 6 ½ FURLONGS SATURDAY AT SANTA ANITA

ARCADIA, CA (April 4, 2026)—Odds-on favorite Mohaven broke in front and was never challenged on her way to a five-length victory in the $125,000 Evening Jewel Stakes presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance for California-bred 3-year-old fillies going 6 ½ furlongs at Santa Anita Park.

Ridden by Emisael Jaramillo for trainer John Sadler, Mohaven carved fractions of 22.81, 45.19 and 1:10.29 and crossed the wire in 1:16.77 to earn her second stakes victory, both coming versus statebreds. Donttellmewhattodo (11-1), ridden by Florent Geroux for trainer George Papaprodromou, finished second followed by Another Zero (3-1) and 40-1 longshot Lino’s Angel.

"The ride was great, she had a nice feeling to her,” said Jaramillo, who was riding Mohaven for the first time. “She's a classy horse."

Mohaven previously finished fifth against open company when testing turf for the first time in the Sweet Life Stakes on the hillside turf course Feb. 7. Last year, the daughter of Yaupon won the Golden State Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar going seven furlongs.

Mohaven was purchased by owner Legacy Ranch for $200,000 at the 2024 Fasig-Tipton California fall yearlings sale. She is now 6: 3-2-0 with nearly $260,000 in earnings.

In the Evening Jewel, Mohaven was refitted in blinkers, which she had worn twice previously early in her career.

“I kind of wanted her in front,” Sadler said. “When I looked at the past performances, they didn’t look quite as quick as her, so I said, ‘Go out there and take control.”

Mohaven paid $3.20, $2.60 and $2.10. Dontellmewhattodo returned $7.00 and $3.80. Another Zero, with Juan Hernandez up for trainer Antonio Garcia, paid $2.40.
