MEDORO REMAINS UNBEATEN WITH COMFORTABLE WIN IN SUNDAY’S $100,000 CHINA DOLL STAKES AT A MILE ON TURF
CRK STABLES’ COLORBEARER IS NOW 3-FOR-3 WITH A PAIR OF STAKES WINS
ARCADIA, CA (March 10, 2024)—CRK Stables’ Medoro remained perfect in her young career with a comfortable 2 ¼-length victory in Sunday’s $100,000 China Doll Stakes for 3-year-olds fillies at a mile on turf at Santa Anita.
Jockey Antonio Fresu and Medoro bided their time in mid-pack before uncorking a three-wide rally at the quarter pole and scoring as the 6-5 favorite. Grade III winner Zona Verde (3-1) finished second, three-quarters of a length ahead of Antifona (7-2), who was exiting a win in last month’s Sweet Life Stakes on the hillside turf course.
Medoro, who is trained by Peter Eurton, won in a final time of 1:36.21. She paid $4.60, $3.00 and $2.40. Fractions for the race were a moderate 23.60, 47.79 and 1:12.80 for six furlongs.
Medoro is now three-for-three with a pair of stakes wins, all with Fresu in the irons. She won her debut going five furlongs on turf at Del Mar Dec. 1, then came right back to take the one-mile Blue Norther on turf Dec. 29 at Santa Anita.
Medoro is by Honor Code out of stakes-placed Achira, by English Channel. The $60,000 winner’s share for the China Doll pushes her bankroll to $151.852.
Zona Verde, trained by Phil D’Amato ridden by Juan Hernandez, returned $3.40 and $2.40 for her runner-up effort. John Sadler’s Antifona was ridden by Hector Berrios and paid $2.60 to show.
Live racing resumes Friday at Santa Anita with an eight-race starting at 1 p.m. PT. Admission gates open at 11 a.m.
