LILO LIL AIMS FOR BACK-TO-BACK STAKES WINS FOR MCCARTHY IN THE HONEYMOON STAKES FOR 3-YEAR-OLD FILLIES GOING ONE MILE ON TURF SATURDAY AT SANTA ANITA

ARCADIA, CA (June 2, 2026)—After springing a 26-1 upset in the Providencia Stakes in April at Santa Anita, Lilo Lil will look to validate that surprise result Saturday when she takes on eight rivals in the $100,000 Honeymoon Stakes for 3-year-old fillies going one mile on turf Saturday at Santa Anita.

Trained by Michael McCarthy, Lilo Lil was allowed on an uncontested lead in the Providencia going 1 1/8 miles and had just enough left in the tank late to prevail by a nose under Emisael Jaramillo. The runner-up that day, Wild Like the West, also returns in the Honeymoon. The Providencia was the first win in five starts for Lilo Lil, a daughter of Caravaggio who races as a homebred for Charles Fox. Jaramillo will again ride Lilo Lil on Saturday.

Wild Like the West, trained by Richard Baltas, stalked in third in the Providencia before her rally came up just short. She’ll have a new rider Saturday as Hollywood Meet leading jockey Armando Ayuso takes over in the irons. Owned by Sayjay Racing, Wild Like the West is a daughter of Into Mischief purchased for $150,000 at auction as a yearling. In her previous stakes try going a flat mile on turf, Wild Like the West was beaten just a neck in the Blue Norther on Dec. 29.

Stakes winner Light Won Up will be testing two turns for the first time in the Honeymoon. Trained by Doug O’Neill, Light Won Up won the Sweet Life Stakes sprinting on the hillside turf course in February and most recently was second by a head in the GIII Senorita, also at about 6 ½ furlongs on the hillside turf course on May 9. Owned by Purple Rein Racing and Mark Davis, Light Won Up is a daughter of City of Light who sold for $265,000 at last year’s OBS March sale of 2-year-olds in training. With her regular rider Antonio Fresu set to ride the Belmont Stakes program at Saratoga Saturday, Juan Hernandez jumps aboard Light Won Up.
