GRADE III WINNERS CHISMOSA, UNCORKED AMONG A HIGHLY COMPETITIVE FIELD OF 10 SET FOR THE MIZDIRECTION STAKES FOR OLDER FILLIES AND MARES GOING ABOUT 6 ½ FURLONGS ON SANTA ANITA’S HILLSIDE TURF COURSE SATURDAY

ARCADIA, CA (May 12, 2025)—Grade III winners Chismosa and Uncorked are among a wide-open field of 10 fillies and mares set to go postward in Saturday’s $100,000 Mizdirection Stakes for older fillies and mares at about 6 ½ furlongs on Santa Anita’s hillside turf course.

Chismosa, who was third in last year’s Mizdirection, will be making her 5-year-old debut for trainer Rafael DeLeon. A California-bred by Clubhouse Ride, Chismosa hasn’t started since Nov. 10 when winning the Betty Grable Stakes for statebreds going seven furlongs on dirt at Del Mar. She will have the services of Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith. Owned by Jamie R. Renella, Chismosa is 22: 6-4-4 with $579,750 in earnings.

Uncorked will be getting class relief and cutting back in distance after running exclusively in two-turn graded stakes since being transferred to trainer Phil D’Amato two winters ago. With the D’Amato barn, Uncorked’s lone victory came in the GIII Royal Heroine going a mile on turf in April 2024. Uncorked was bred in Australia, where she raced as 2-year-old in 2022 before being imported to the U.S. The now 6-year-old mare by Pierro, who is campaigned domestically by The Elkstone Group LLC, has an overall record of 24: 4-6-2 with $342,499 in earnings. She’ll have Kazushi Kimura in the irons for the first time.

Venganza will also be cutting back in distance for trainer Richad Mandella after most recently finishing fourth in this year’s edition of the Royal Heroine on April 25. Prior to that effort, the 5-year-old mare by Curlin finished third behind highly regarded Queen Maxima in the GIII Monrovia sprinting down the hill on April 5. A homebred for Perry and Ramona Bass, Venganza is 10: 3-0-1 with $150,320 in earnings.

Miss Roberts steps up in class for trainer Jeff Mullins after winning a first-level allowance sprinting on the hillside turf course April 5. Bred in Great Britain, where she raced as a 2-year-old, the 4-year-old daughter of Siyouni is owned by Upland Flats Racing. Miss Roberts has an overall record of 19: 2-6-3 with $126,209 in earnings. She’ll be ridden by Juan Hernandez for the first time.

Lunar Impact, trained by Dan Blacker, will also be making her seasonal bow. Off since last July, Lunar Impact cleared her first-level allowance condition over the hillside turf course in January 2024. Bred in Great Britain, the 4-year-old daughter of Zoustar has a record of 10: 3-0-1 with $150,860 in earnings. She is owned by DK Racing, Qatar Racing, Radley Equine Inc., Rick Gold and Dave Odmark. Hector Berrios will ride Lunar Impact.

Also in the lineup for D’Amato is Granny Budgie, who moves up to stakes competition after winning a second-level allowance at six furlongs on turf April 18 at Santa Anita. Bred in Great Britain, where she races as a 2-year-old, Granny Budgie is a 4-year-old filly by Massaat. She has an overall record of 10: 5-0-2 with $110,465 in earnings. Granny Budgie is owned by Omar Aldabbagh and David A. Bernsen. She’ll be piloted by Tiago Pereira, who was also aboard for her most recent allowance win.
