GRADE III, $100,000 SAN SIMEON QUOTES

JOCKEY QUOTES

ARMANDO AYUSO, AIR FORCE RED, WINNER: “My trip was good. He broke well and was in a good position. I knew with his speed he didn’t need the lead, so I just followed. He was loaded all the way. When he spilt horses, he split with a powerful move. He split and I just tried to keep him straight and get to the wire.

“This is my second Grade III and second graded stake that I’ve won in my career. I see it as a big step in my career so I’m really happy and proud of myself as well.”

TRAINER QUOTES

LEONARD POWELL, AIR FORCE RED, WINNER:“The instructions were not to get into a speed duel and not get stuck inside. He is a big horse and he can get shy when he is inside of horses. There was quite a bit of speed, they went 21 and change. But Armando was able to let him relax. I could see before they crossed the dirt that he was loaded and once he got the split he just exploded.

“He is such a character and a horse that we all love.”

NOTES: The winning owners are Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Holly Golightly.
