GRADE III, $100,000 LAS FLORES STAKES QUOTES

JOCKEY QUOTES

RICARDO GONZALEZ, MARGARITA GIRL, WINNER: “I had a lot of horse. It set up perfect for her. She sat right behind them, I got her off the rail to the outside and when it was time to go, she kicked on for me.”

TRAINER QUOTES

MARK GLATT, MARGARITA GIRL, WINNER: “When I looked over the nominations I said I don’t think the race this year is coming up particularly tough. I didn’t think it was really a lot tougher race on paper than an allowance race. Obviously, she is a filly we gave a lot of money for and can benefit from a graded stakes placing. Now she has a graded win. The (favorite Magnificat), she had won by just a neck last time in an allowance, so it didn’t feel like it was coming up the strongest of races for a Grade 3. I decided to take a shot.

“We thought she was going to win first time out, that’s how well she was training going into her debut. She was pretty speedy in her early races and was falling apart a little bit. Finally, we got her to start to relax a little bit. Today you saw she came, not well off the pace, but a couple two or three lengths off the pace. It made her a better horse.

“Fresu’s ridden this filly for us every time and he was out hurt and the mount became available. Ricky has worked a lot of horses for me and had some good successes in stakes over the summer I just thought he would fit her well.”

OWNER QUOTES HANS MARON, SAINTS OR SINNERS, MARGARITA GIRL, WINNER: “It’s a great weekend. She has always been my favorite. She’s just a beautiful racehorse. I’m super excited. She came on and knows how to get there again.”

NOTES: The winning owners are Rancho Temescal Thoroughbred Partners and Saints or Sinners.
