JOCKEY QUOTES

JUAN HERNANDEZ, MIZUMI, WINNER: “She was travelling beautifully when I was covered up. Around the turn when I swung out and started to make my run, she got lost a little bit, she was looking around. So I shook my hands and put her in the bridle and she took off and started running again. She won easy. It was only her second start and first time going long. She relaxed beautifully.

TRAINER QUOTES

BOB BAFFERT, MIZUMI, WINNER: “That was really impressive for a second time out. Ricky Gonzalez rode her the first time, filling in for Juan, but he rode her great that day. Today, second out to be stuck behind horses, Juan rode her with a lot of confidence. You could tell that she was just kicking on. Juan came back and I could tell he was pretty impressed. She is owned by the Chu’s, who have been great clients of mine. We kept breeding to Justify and we finally got a good Justify on the dirt, so we are excited with that.

“We were just happy to get her to the races. At the two and a half, I think she was in an awkward position. But when he asked her to go she took off and at the eighth pole she just caught another gear. That is something you want to see going down the road. It is nice to have a good 3-year-old filly like that. Now she is a stakes winner. I was really impressed with her myself.”
