GRADE II, $200,000 SANTA MARIA STAKES QUOTES

JOCKEY QUOTES

ANTONIO FRESU, RICHI, WINNER: “Looking at the form, I didn’t think she could be beat today. I kept things simple. I took the lead, tried to do my thing and she won very easily. You could see she wasn’t even tired. I never asked her. She was so much the best. That was a nice performance.”

TRAINER QUOTES

BOB BAFFERT, RICHI, WINNER: “This is the first stakes win with (Antonio) Fresu. I just told him to play the break and get her in a nice smooth rhythm. Both of my horses were in a good spot. It was first time going two turns for my other filly (Splendora), I think she got a lot out of it. Richi, she is like been there done that, and she is just getting better. I really think that she is getting acclimated now to the United States. It takes them about a year to get them acclimated to the states, but she just gets stronger and stronger and has just developed into a really nice filly.”

NOTES: Bob Baffert also trained the second-place finisher Splendora. The winning owners are Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings Inc. and Stud Vendaval, Inc.
