Grade II, $200,000 Buena Vista Stakes Quotes

JOCKEY QUOTES

FLAVIEN PRAT, LIGURIA, WINNER: “I wanted to be a little closer during the race but just couldn’t keep up. I felt like the pace was pretty strong and she was struggling, but I was able to save every turn. I was able to stay on the rail and save ground. She made an amazing run at the end.”

JOSE ORTIZ, TRIUPATI, RUNNER-UP: “It was a good trip. That horse (39-1 longshot Omaha Girl) went to the lead and opened up, so I just sat there and rode like I was on the lead. Jonathan told me she’s a filly that stays and doesn’t have a big turn of foot. When I asked her to go, it was like he told me. She ran a little even. But it was good. The trainer and owner are glad she got black type.

TRAINER QUOTES

MICHAEL MCCARTHY, LIGURIA, WINNER: “She is a very classy filly and has trained well here. She came to Santa Anita off of an extended break and had to start, then stop, to get her going. I thought her first race back was very good, maybe a touch further back than I would have liked the other day. It turned out it was basically the same thing today. Flavien was able to find a seam at the rail and get the job done. She is a quality filly. Her resume spoke volumes when she came here. I’m just glad we were able to get her get her in form and hopefully keep her there for a while.”

NOTES: The winning owner is Alpha Delta Stables LLC.
