GRADE I, $300,000 FRANK E. KILROE MILE QUOTES

JOCKEY QUOTES

UMBERTO RISPOLI, FORMIDABLE MAN, WINNER “I needed a lot of luck when there were a lot of horses ahead of me and Jose [Ortiz] on my outside. I was struggling to go around him and Antonio [Fresu] was coming with Almendares, so I was a little bit tight in there. I looked up and I saw Air Force Red move ahead of me and Mike [Smith] was already ahead from the rail. That made me think to go through that gap because that was the only option I had. I then tried to make it as smooth as I could. I would say that this was a great team effort. Michael [McCarthy] was right to run him.”

TRAINER QUOTES

MICHAEL MCCARTHY, FORMIDABLE MAN, WINNER: “A lot of things got wound up in Florida (Pegasus World Cup Invitational) a lot of music a lot of things going on Pegasus day. A little bit of a sensory overload for him and we thought he was finishing his races well enough that blinkers would make little to no difference anymore.

“I was a little bit anxious. The horse has been good at a mile and an eighth and was cutting back to a mile. All credit goes to Umberto. He was patient sat a pocket trip and looked for a seam and that is what top riders do.”

NOTES: The winning owner is Mr. & Mrs. W. K. Warren Jr.
