__AFTER GOOD 3RD AGAINST MALES IN THE GII EDDIE D, AMORITA LOOMS A MAJOR THREAT FOR MANDELLA IN THE SENATOR KEN MADDY STAKES FOR FILLIES AND MARES GOING ABOUT 6 ½ FURLONGS ON THE HILLSIDE TURF COURSE SATURDAY AT SANTA ANITA __

The Senator Ken Maddy will be joined by the Tokyo City Cup on a nine-race card at The Great Race Place. First post is at 1 p.m. PT.

ARCADIA, CA (Oct. 20, 2026)—Following a good third-place finish against males in the GII Eddie D Stakes on the hillside turf course on Sept. 26, Amorita looms a major threat for Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella Saturday when she faces fillies and mares over Santa Anita’s unique hillside layout in the $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes going about 6 ½ furlongs.

A 4-year-old filly by Liam’s Map, Amorita set the pace in the Eddie D before being overhauled in the stretch to finish 1 ¼-lengths back of winner and Breeders’ Cup bound Sorrento Sky. That effort came two starts after earning her first stakes win in the Daisycutter for fillies and mares going five furlongs on turf at Del Mar in July. Amorita is co-owned by breeder Stone Farm and Augustin Stable. She enters with a record of 14: 3-3-1 with $236,160 in earnings. Jockey Kazushi Kimura, who was aboard for the Eddie D, will again be in the irons.

Antifona returns just 12 days after nearly springing a 10-1 upset in the restricted Swingtime Stakes for fillies and mares going one mile on turf at Santa Anita. Trained by Vladimir Cerin for owners David Wilson and Holly Wilson, the 5-year-old French-bred mare by Recoletos will be seeking her second stakes win. In 2024, Antifona won the Sweet Life Stakes on the hillside turf course. She enters with an overall record of 23: 4-2-5—which includes seven starts in France as a 2-year-old—and $241,095 in earnings. Jockey Juan Hernandez, who was aboard for the Swingtime, again has the call.

Rethink makes her stakes debut for trainer Phil D’Amato and owner James E. Downey. A 4-year-old filly by Vekoma, Rethink made her first three starts for top eastern-based trainer Chad Brown before being purchased by Downey at the 2025 Keeneland November sale and sent west to D’Amato. In her two most recent starts, Rethink won a first-level allowance going six furlongs on turf at Santa Anita in May then was second following a nearly-three month-layoff on Aug. 13 at Del Mar in a second-level allowance going five furlongs on turf. She’ll be ridden by Julien Leparoux for the first time.
