RACE IS PART OF 11-RACE CARD ON KENTUCKY DERBY DAY AT SANTA ANITA; ADMISSION GATES TO OPEN AT 7:15 A.M., FIRST LIVE RACE POST TIME IS AT 12 NOON
ARCADIA, Calif. (May 3, 2017)–Undefeated in five starts, Joe Turner’s homebred Sircat Sally and Beau Recall, one-two finishers when last they met, head a field of six 3-year-old fillies going one mile on turf in Saturday’s Grade III, $100,000 Senorita Stakes at Santa Anita.
A California-bred daughter of Surf Cat, Sircat Sally, who is conditioned by Jerry Hollendorfer, cuts back in distance a furlong off of a handy 2 ¼ length win in the Grade III, 1 1/8 miles turf Providencia Stakes on April 8.
SIRCAT SALLY: A gate to wire winner of the Providencia, she began her career with a five length triumph in a six furlong Cal-bred maiden special weight race on Nov. 20 and has subsequently rattled off four consecutive stakes wins–her last three on turf. With regular rider Mike Smith away to ride Saturday at Churchill Downs, Sircat Sally will be ridden for the first time by Stewart Elliott. Out of Turner’s In Excess mare, Sister Sally, Sircat Sally has amassed earnings of $348,860 from her five wins.
BEAU RECALL: A fast finishing second to Sircat Sally in the one mile turf China Doll Stakes here on March 11, Irish-bred Beau Recall demonstrated an impressive turn of foot as she rallied from far back in a field of 12 to be beaten 1 ¼ lengths under Joe Talamo, who rides back on Saturday. An off the pace winner of her U.S. debut, a one mile turf allowance on Jan. 29, she won one out of two starts in her native Ireland and is thus 4-2-1-0 overall. Owned by Slam Dunk Racing, Beau Recall rates a big look in her third stateside start.
