SIX WINNING TICKETS IN THURSDAY’S 50 CENT EARLY PICK 5 PAY $53,045.60 AS LONGEST SHOT IN THE FIELD TAKES RACE 5 AT 29-1; UPSTART CONNER ‘BOOKENDS’ THE POPULAR WAGER WITH A RIDING DOUBLE

 

            ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2018)–With the longest shot in the field taking Thursday’s fifth race at Santa Anita, there were six winning tickets in Santa Anita’s popular 50 cent Early Pick 5, each returning $53,045.60.

Dispatched at 29-1 in a field of eight older horses in for a $25,000 claiming tag, Jerry Hollendorfer’s Allaboutaction cruised home to win by 4 ½ lengths under Tyler Conner, producing a win mutuel of $60.40.

With a total pool of $370,179 up for grabs, not a single post time favorite was able to win any of the Early Pick 5 races:  In race one, Spokane Eagle provided Conner, a Pennsylvania native who at age 24 is riding his first Winter Meet at Santa Anita, with a 2 ½ length win and paid $15.80 to win.

Race two went to Antioch, ridden by Joe Talamo, he beat favored Momma’s Baby Boy by a nose and paid $7.00 to win.  Race three went to Madelyn’s Wild Max, who won by 2 ¼ lengths with Brayan Pena aboard and paid $17.60 to win.  Thursday’s fourth race was taken by My Man Chuckles, who scored by a half length under Flavien Prat and paid $8.20 to win.
