JUAN HERNANDEZ, MADONE, WINNER: “I was telling Simon that this filly came to run today because she broke really sharp out of the gate. She actually put herself in a really good position, behind the speed and then I was saving ground. Around the quarter pole I was loaded, I had a loaded horse and I was just waiting for some space to open and come through. I found a spot and then when I asked her, she kicked really well…she is a nice filly.”

VICTOR ESPINOZA, CLOSING REMARKS, SECOND AS 9-5 FAVORITE: “I clipped heels with the horse to my inside a couple jumps out of the gate.  I don’t know how I stayed on.  She should’ve won the race, she ran an amazing race to overcome that.”

SIMON CALLAGHAN, MADONE, WINNER: “We thought she was ready although, you never quite know. It’s just easier to get them ready to run on turf than it is on dirt. So we were confident her fitness level was where it needed to be, and Juan gave her a perfect ride.  She broke well, put herself in a good position, and she had a good turn of foot when it was needed, that was fun.

“Fitness wise, the dirt you know you have to have them super, super tight and the turf you can have them a little bit undercooked and get away with it. I think that’s the way she was today, I think she’ll improve and the Oaks will be the main target from here. We’ll have one race in between, whether it’s here or in Del Mar but that’s our main target for this filly, I felt she’s very good, were looking forward to it.”
