COREY NAKATANI, FOUND MONEY, WINNER: “It’s always a great opportunity to ride for Doug and Paul; we go back a ways. What a tremendous horse.

“We felt my horse, Found Money, was quicker than his stablemate Mrazek and we got away great and there wasn’t too much heat on the inside so he was able to be comfortable. It’s a tribute to Doug and his team because this horse is like an old pro; he made my job pretty easy.”

DOUG O’NEILL, FOUND MONEY, WINNER, AND MRAZEK, SECOND: “Going into the race we thought Found Money might be pushing the pace and Mrazek would be sitting in the garden spot and maybe make a move, but lo and behold, here we are one-two down the backside. That’s the old, ‘You got to call an audible’ there. But both horses ran great. We’re proud of (sire) Square Eddie and Team Reddam.

“We’ve got all kinds of options for future races. I think it’s exciting. I think they’ll stretch out, I think they’ll turf. The sky’s the limit . . . We just have to keep them sound and there are a lot of fun things ahead.”

PAUL REDDAM, FOUND MONEY, WINNER: “This absolutely makes me feel proud. This is a little crazy. I’m telling you, Ed Freeman did a great job preparing these two year olds and that’s a big part of it. Plus, we did believe in the stallion, Square Eddie. His first crop was really good, then there were a bunch of things going on behind the scenes and they didn’t have as many foals the next year, but he’s on fire right now and there are more coming that we’re excited about.

“We have 35 mares and all are here in California. Most were bred to ‘Eddie’ but a couple were bred to another one of our stallions.”
