MARATHON STAKES QUOTES-FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2019

JOCKEY QUOTES

DRAYDEN VAN DYKE, ITSINTHEPOST, WINNER: “I didn’t want to get in his way too much, so I just let him go. Jeff (Mullins) had him super ready.  We have been working him on the training track and getting ready for this race.  I looked back to see Campaign because he was my main concern.  I didn’t see him.  I guess he was way back.”

TRAINER QUOTES

JEFF MULLINS, ITSINTHEPOST, WINNER: (Noted it was only his third race on dirt in 41 career starts): “It was the distance (that helped him win), it’s all the distance. He ran a good second to (John) Sadler’s horse (Campaign in the Grade II Cougar II Handicap on July 24).

“We had him really fit today and Drayden (Van Dyke) gave him a good ride.”

OWNER QUOTES

TIM COHEN, OWNER (RED BARONS BARN) ITSINTHEPOST:  “I was just hoping everyone had enough energy to finish!  Drayden rode a really good race.  Jeff told him to take it easy early and make sure he had company.  This horse tends to pull himself up when he makes the lead too early and that’s what happened last time.  It looks like it’s going to be a great day and it’s nice to win the first one.”

NOTES: The winning owners are Red Barons Barn, LLC.

Itsinthepost and jockey Drayden Van Dyke win the Grade II, $200,000 Marathon Stakes, Friday, November 1, 2019 at Santa Anita Park, Arcadia CA.
