FLAVIEN PRAT, AMBITIOUS BREW, WINNER: “Marty just asked me not to rush him. He broke so well and I had an easy lead. I was surprised to be on the lead that easily with him but after that when I asked him after crossing the dirt, he just took off.

“I heard he is always good when he’s fresh and I didn’t know him, so the layoff wasn’t a concern for me. The way he went to the lead like that, so easily, I would say he likes to run fresh.”

MIKE SMITH, FOREST CHATTER, SECOND: “I was the speed of the race and I got away extremely slow and basically just gave him (Ambitious Brew) about a four or five-length head start. At that point, I couldn’t do much about it. I tried to cut every corner I could after that and he really ran a gallant effort around the second turn but it gave him way too much to do and the winner got such an easy lead, it was over two jumps out of the gate.”

MARTY JONES, AMBITIOUS BREW, WINNER: “We ended up getting a great trip. You could tell after the first quarter mile that he was in the right spot and he was gonna be tough to beat. I keep feeling like I should’ve gotten more out of this horse, he’s a really good horse. Hopefully, there’s one more chapter in the book for him and he can string together five or six good races. Hopefully, we can finish off the year with something big with him.

PAM ZIEBARTH, OWNER/BREEDER AMBITIOUS BREW, WINNER: “This is a great way for him to come back. The whole crew at the barn has been so happy with this horse. They were texting me this morning, telling me ‘We got this.’ We have 12 horses with Marty now and they’re all homebreds. Fifty percent of them are Cal-bred.”
