JOEL ROSARIO, FILIMBI, WINNER: “She broke well and I could see that everybody else was sending their horse, trying to get a position early so I just let her stay happy where she was at. I know she has a good finish so I waited and when I asked her she was there for me. She responded really well. I just took my time with her today.”

RAFAEL BEJARANO, STRATHNAVER, SECOND: “I had a good trip and a lot of horse around the turn and came in beautiful down the stretch until  (Emotional Kitten) came in really bad and cut (Wall of Sound) and I had to check my horse.  It was messed up in the last furlong, but no one was going to beat the winner.”

On winning his 21st Southern California Riding Title:“It feels good. It’s a blessing. I just try to keep it safe and keep working hard.”

LANFRANCO DETTORI, EMOTIONAL KITTEN, DISQUALIFIED FROM SECOND TO FOURTH: “Everything went to plan, in the end though, she just got bumped (costing her the win). I was exactly where I wanted to be. My trainer told me to ‘come late and on the outside’ so I did.”

FLORENT GEROUX, I’M ALREADY SEXY, MOVED UP TO FOURTH FROM FIFTH:“Great trip; it’s just way too bad we went too fast on the backside.  I wish we could have slowed down a little more, but (Pontchatrain) was dogging me and cost me a place or two.  She was very relaxed.  I don’t think we would have won, but we could have been second or third.”

RODOLPHE BRISSET, ASSISTANT TO BILL MOTT, FILIMBI, WINNER: “We didn’t really expect the race to unfold as it did (going eight-wide turning for home). We let Joel (Rosario) make the choice from the gate. She didn’t break very well, and they were going pretty quick, 22 and change and 47 and two, so he decided to sit where he was, take a hold of her, and make one run. She’s a nice filly. She won pretty easy.”

Future plans? “I’m going to let Bill Mott and the owners decide, but maybe the Matriarch, maybe we’ll go away. That’s going to be their choice.”
