GARY STEVENS, GO WEST MARIE, WINNER: “We were going extremely slow today. The key with

her is to get her relaxed. When Rafael (on Wild in the Saddle) was getting out pretty good going into the first turn it gave me a little bump to get out and she got a little aggressive. Once I got her back midway around the turn she switched off for me and she has an explosive kick. She outclassed these fillies today.

“The turf course has some cushion to it. Having this meet run this long two years in a row, it’s been good from day one. It shouldn’t be this good for as much racing as we’ve done on it. Hats off to the turf guys.”

EDDIE TRUMAN, GO WEST MARIE, WINNER: “Gary (Stevens) loved her at a mile. We both think she’s actually better going a mile. Today it scared me with that slow pace, and he rode her like the champion rider that he is. He said, ‘Hey, we’re not saving ground. We’re the best horse and here we come.

“Peter (owner Peter Redekop) was not here. He was watching and cheering from Canada.”

NOTES: Winning owner Peter Redekop is from British Columbia.
