TIAGO PEREIRA, STARR OF QUALITY, and WINNER: “This was an easier spot today. It looked like Coco Kisses was the only speed and that’s the way it worked out. My filly wanted to go at the half mile pole, but we waited and she ran really good. Nice win.”

BILL SPAWR, STARR OF QUALITY, WINNER: “The race went pretty much as we drew it up on paper. We thought Mike (Smith on Coco Kisses) might take the lead and force us to go outside and that’s what happened, but Tiago and I talked about that this morning.

“Being a short favorite in a small field adds pressure, but we had the best horse and it worked out, so we’re happy.”

JON LINDO, STARR OF QUALITY, WINNER: “She had a lot of conditions we thought we could take out and we were having trouble finding the right races for her. We ran in an open race when she still had the Cal-bred condition and I didn’t think anyone would take her, but when they ran her back we said, ‘Well, we still have the condition,’ so we went back and it has worked out very well.

“We waited to put her in a graded stakes because there wasn’t one available for Cal-breds until this one.

“She doesn’t handle the turf as well as she does dirt, so we have been trying to keep her on the dirt, and getting the two-turn races for fillies and mares has been a bit difficult, so when you get the chance you have to run. Trying Paradise Woods last time out maybe wasn’t a good idea, so we thought we would do something else.”

NOTES: The winning owners are Tom Acker and Jon Lindo.
