CRAIG DOLLASE, BRANDOTHEBARTENDER, WINNER: “We had a sneaky feeling he was going to run well today. It was a quick turnaround but he has trained really well in between today and into last week.

“Joe rode him really well and the pace scenario really helped us. This horse tries and he’s very consistent. We got the job done.

“I knew he was going fast when I saw the :43 and change half, I thought, ‘oh ok.’ Joe wasn’t too far back, which were exactly what his instructions were. Joe rode him great.

“You never know what’s going to happen when you have a quick turnaround but he really ran his race today.

“We’ll enjoy this with the partners and then decide any future plans. It was a shake for this horse down at Del Mar (Aug. 1) and we were very lucky to get him. A shout out to these owners. They’re a lot of fun and they’ve been in the game a long time. This is their second horse with me and it really worked out well.

“Hopefully, we’ll do some more good things with this horse. He’s very consistent and he’s a Cal-Bred and we know it pays to own a Cal-bred.”

PETER MILLER, RICHARD’S BOY, SECOND: “When you’ve got horses from Los Al coming over, sending for their life, you’re going to get that (kind of pace), but that’s horse racing. This sets him up good for the Breeders’ Cup (Turf Sprint Nov. 3). When you’ve got horses on you from either side and their whole game is just to try and beat you and not to win the race, what are you going to do?

“We’ll just train him up to the Breeders’ Cup. This will set him up good. He’s fit now. He’s ready.”
