JOEL ROSARIO, RIVER BOYNE, WINNER: “I was a little bit nervous that I wouldn’t get here in time today. We had a delay in Florida and then when I got here, there was a lot of traffic on the road. I’m glad I was able to make it.
“He was very kind, he broke well. I asked him a little bit because he got off a little slow but he got going right away. He just took me after that. He’s a nice horse, it was a good race.
“Before the race Jeff just asked me if I had watched his other races, that’s it (laughs.)
“I couldn’t really tell how much I had left in the tank because it looks like he really likes to run.
“I love it over here in California so maybe, maybe one day I’ll be back.”
JEFF MULLINS, RIVER BOYNE, WINNER: “Joel (Rosario) kind of rode him the way he appeared to arrive (late at Santa Anita). He didn’t get here until about 15, 20 minutes before post time. I just asked him if he watched any replays (of the horse’s races), he said, ‘Yeah,’ and I said, ‘You know enough.'”
Asked how he engaged Rosario: “When we found out (Flavien) Prat had to travel (to ride Solomini in the Rebel today at Oaklawn), and everyone here had already taken a mount (for the Pasadena), the Cohens offered to fly somebody in, so I called Ron Anderson (Rosario’s agent) and got Joel to come ride him.”
JEDD COHEN, RED BARON’S BARN, OWNER RIVER BOYNE, WINNER: “Flavien (Prat) had to go to New York today, but he loves this horse. He gallops him, and doesn’t want anybody else on him in the morning. He told us this is the best 3-year-old grass horse he’s ever been on. He can do anything, he’ll go around, sit inside, he’s very handy. He trains great on the dirt…”
WOULD YOU CONSIDER THE PREAKNESS? “It’s in my head.”
