KENT DESORMEAUX, TOP OF THE GAME, WINNER: “That was incredible, he’s a nice horse. He’s stamping himself as a signature handicap horse.

“I didn’t expect that kind of a run off a layoff.

FLAVIEN PRAT, HOPPERTUNITY, SECOND: “He ran a good race. A mile is a bit short for him.”

VLADIMIR CERIN: “It’s the Comma to the Top Stakes and he’s Top of the Game, so I kind of thought it was meant to be.

“When Kent’s on, he’s magic.

“I thought this horse could only win out of the one hole, because all his wins came from that post. But today, he had the two.

“David (Wilson, owner) is so good for this business.

DAVID WILSON: “For him to improve, and he had to improve to be able beat these horses, is impressive. It was a long layoff so I think first and foremost the credit has to go to the trainer and the jockey.

“I never expected Kent to come out of the gate the way he did today and then he kind of took back, squeezed through on the rail and just ran away from them. It was impressive. Kent was terrific.

“He beat a couple of good horses today and he coasted that last eighth.

“We’ve had a paucity of horses. Now, we’ve had Mike Lightner, in Florida, buying eight or ten a year for us and we’ve doubled and tripled what we’re paying. We have five or six really good two year olds right now and we have ten yearlings that we bought this year. You’ll see us around here more often.

“I’ve been with Vladimir for about 20 years. He’s had about 30 of my horses, we’ve been to the Breeders’ Cup a few times and he’s done just an unbelievable job. We’ve won the Hollywood Gold Cup and have a great relationship. My wife has said that we would get out of the game before we change trainers.”

NOTES: The winning owners are David and Holly Wilson of Orange County.

Winning owner David Wilson, Kent Desormeaux and trophy presenter Gary Barber are all smiles following Saturday’s $70,000 Coomma to the Top Stakes at Santa Anita.
