SPEEDY LEUCOTHEA ALL BUSINESS AS SHE REGISTERS 8 ½ LENGTH ROMP IN $75,000 ANOAKIA STAKES; CEDILLO & MILLER TEAM FOR SIX FURLONG WIN IN 1:10.81

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 13, 2019)–With a return to sprinting and a clean break, Leucothea rocketed from the starting gate and went on to a dominating 8 ½ length win in Sunday’s $75,000 Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita. Ridden by Abel Cedillo and trained by Peter Miller, the chestnut filly by Midshipman got six furlongs in 1:10.81.

A 14 ½ length maiden $62,500 claiming winner going seven furlongs two starts back on Aug. 31 at Del Mar, Leucothea bobbled leaving the gate in the Grade I Chandelier Stakes here on Sept. 27, unseating Norberto Arroyo, Jr. Reunited with Cedillo, who was aboard for the maiden tally, she went to the front and never looked back.

“When this filly broke her maiden, she made the lead very easy,” said Cedillo. “She doesn’t like you to take any hold of her, you just have to leave her alone and she does her job.”

Off at 2-1 in a field of six juvenile fillies, Leucothea paid $6.20, $3.00 and $2.40.

Owned by Altamira Racing Stable, SoCal Seven Racing and Brian McGoldrick, Leucothea, who was bred in Kentucky and is out of the Southern Halo mare Any for Love, was purchased as a Keeneland September yearling for $40,000.

With the winner’s share of $46,800, Leucothea now has earnings of $67,682.  In picking up her first stakes win, she now has two wins from five starts.

Ridden by Flavien Prat, Shedaresthedevil bobbled at the break, was shuffled back at the rail in the early running and ran on to finish second, 2 ¾ lengths in front of Éclair.  Off as the even money favorite, Shedaresthedevil paid $2.60 and $2.10.

Ridden by Evin Roman, Éclair was easily third, finishing 2 ¼ lengths in front of Buyer’s Remorse. Dispatched at 7-1, Éclair paid $3.00 to show.

Fractions on the race, all set by the winner, were 21.87, 44.81 and 57.37.
