HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL 626 NIGHT MARKET COMPLETES SUMMER RUN BY ATTRACTING 345,684 ATTENDEES OVER FOUR WEEKENDS AT SANTA ANITA
AMERICA’S LARGEST ASIAN-THEMED NIGHT MARKET MARKS EIGHTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR AT SANTA ANITA BY AGAIN ATTRACTING YOUNGER ‘LESS TRADITIONAL’ DEMOGRAPHIC
ARCADIA, Calif. (Sept. 5, 2019)–For the eighth consecutive year, Santa Anita’s wildly popular 626 Night Market wrapped up another successful summertime run this past Sunday at The Great Race Place, as it attracted 345,684 on-track attendees over four separate weekends this summer.
The 626 Night Market plays host to dozens of young entrepreneurs and offers attendees a wide array of live entertainment, as well as food and technological exhibits located in Santa Anita’s picturesque Paddock Gardens area and surrounding parking lots.
“We’re thrilled that ‘626’ continues to introduce a younger, more ethnic and less traditional demographic to Santa Anita Park,” said Pete Siberell, Santa Anita Director of Community Services and Special Projects. “We’re not only able to expose our Paddock Gardens and racetrack to a totally new audience, but we we’re able to engage with many of them in a way that we hope will encourage them to come back to visit us during our live meets and become Thoroughbred racing fans.
“By any measure, this is a golden demographic for us and we’re thankful for the opportunity to make new friends right here in our immediate market.”
The brainchild of 38-year-old entrepreneur Jonny Hwang, “626” is patterned after similar events in his native Taiwan and has proven incredibly popular with young attendees who are based primarily in the San Gabriel Valley.
“As we continue to evolve the 626 Night Market with diverse foods and activities, we attract more people from various areas of Southern California,” said Hwang. “This enables our night markets to be a massive platform for showcasing chefs, entrepreneurs, and talent from participating communities.”
Santa Anita, which will host the two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships for a record 10th time on Nov. 1 & 2, will reopen for live racing with its 23-day Autumn Meet beginning on Friday, Sept. 27.
