ENGLISH-BRED POSTER GIRL RALLIES TO TAKE $53,000 SANTA ANITA ALLOWANCE FEATURE BY 3 ¼ LENGTHS UNDER PEREIRA, TRAINED BY CHEW, SHE GETS MILE ON TURF IN 1:33.59
ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 3, 2019)–Attentive to the early pace, English-bred Poster Girl took command a furlong from home and went on to an impressive 3 ¼ length win in Thursday’s $53,000 Santa Anita allowance feature under Tiago Pereira, who netted his second win of the day. Trained by Matt Chew, the 6-year-old mare got a flat mile on turf in 1:33.59.
Winless from seven starts this year, Poster Girl, who was most recently fourth in $100,000 optional claimer going five furlongs on grass at Del Mar on Aug. 25, was off at 8-1 in a field of six fillies and mares three and up and paid $18.00, $6.20 and $3.80.
The only horse in the field entered for an optional claiming tag of $62,500, Poster Girl was claimed by trainer Bill Spawr in a two-way shake.
“We entered in a third condition allowance that didn’t go, so we ran here,” said Chew, who bought Poster Girl for $20,000 privately in Europe two years ago. “We bought her for 20 (thousand dollars) and sold her for 90.”
Owned by Integrity Thoroughbred Racing, LLC, Victor Racing and Peter Jeong, Poster Girl picked up $31,800 for the win. When coupled with the claiming price of $62,500, the owners collected $94,300 on the day. With the victory, Poster Girl is now 26-4-4-4, with total earnings of $191,411.
Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Don’t Blame Judy completed the exacta. Off at 4-1, she paid $5.60 and $3.80 while finishing 1 ¼ lengths clear of Lucky Peridot.
Ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, longshot Lucky Peridot outran even money favorite Great Return by a half length for third money and paid $4.80 to show.
Fractions on the race were 23.17, 46.43, 1:10.02 and 1:21.99.
