- Based in New York throughout career that has included over 4,000 victories, native New Yorker decided to move tack to Southern California late in 2006 at the age of 42. “Business-wise, this was not a hard decision to make,” he said in hopes of invigorating career after recording nine wins from 75 mounts at Belmont’s fall meet.
- Gained first Grade I victory in California on March 3, 2006, when guiding Kip Deville to victory in the Frank E. Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita before finishing fourth in the meet jockeys’ standings with 48 victories. Personal
- Decided he wanted to become a jockey at the age of 12 after watching Bill Shoemaker win the 1976 Marlborough Cup aboard Forego while defeating Honest Pleasure by a head.
- Trainer Steve DiMauro provided first job at racetrack. “He more or less taught me how to ride racehorses,” says Migliore. “He gave me a good education in the business.”
- Nicknamed “The Mig,” in deference to his surname and in reference to the type of fighter jet, a reflection of his tenacious riding style.
- Resumed riding six months after suffering a near fatal neck injury when thrown from Madam Alydar in the first race at Belmont Park on May 30, 1988. On March 24, 1992, the spill and subsequent “rescue” were featured on the television series “Rescue 911.”
- Presented with Eddie Arcaro Award as outstanding jockey in 1981 and 1985 by the New York Turf Writers Association.
- Won the 2003 Mike Venezia Award from the New York Racing Association for sportsmanship and citizenship.
