Highlights
- First winner: Gulf Tide on Feb. 5, 1995, at Santa Anita, at odds of 19-1, for the late trainer Rodney Rash.
- First stakes winner: Onceinabluemamoon in the Las Palmas Handicap on Oct. 15, 1995.
- First Grade I winner: Famous Digger in the 1997 Del Mar Oaks.
- Guided Happyanunoit to back-to-back Grade I victories in the Vinery First Lady at Keeneland and the Matriarch at Hollywood Park in the fall of 1999. Then rode Happyanunoit to victory in the Grade I Beverly Hills Handicap at Hollywood Park, July 2000. Also guided the New Zealand-bred to victory in the Grade I Gamely Breeders' Cup Handicap at Hollywood in May 2001.
- Gained first Grade I stakes win at Santa Anita in the 2003 running of the historic San Juan Capistrano Invitational Handicap when he rode Passinetti to victory for trainer Ben Cecil.
- Enjoyed stellar year in 1999 when rode 64 winners to earn over $4.1 in purses with more than 20 percent of his victories coming in stakes races.
- Turned in a brilliant ride aboard Sayarshan – in his first U.S. start – to win the 1999 Golden Gate Handicap by 1 1/2 lengths. Came back a couple of months later to beat Ladies Din and a fine field in the Grade II Del Mar Handicap. Piloted Tuzla to a win over males in the 1999 San Francisco Mile at Golden Gate in April.
- Finished second in the 1996 Santa Anita Handicap aboard Luthier Fever for trainer Ted West.
- After moving his base to Kentucky for several years, returned to Southern California for the 2006 Del Mar meet. Won his first graded stakes race on the West Coast since his return when directing One Off to victory at Santa Anita in the 2007 running of the Grade II San Marcos Handicap. Took the Grade I Del Mar Debutante during the summer aboard 14-1 longshot Set Play.
Personal
- Attended apprentice school in native France before coming to U.S. in October 1993.
- Attributes success to parents, Ellene and Francois, for their words of encouragement, and trainer Ben Cecil. Blanc also salutes the late Rodney Rash, who gave him his first job, and trainers Charlie Whittingham, Jack Van Berg and the late Walter Greenman for giving him opportunities to ride good horses.
