RAFAEL BEJARANO, STORM THE HILL, WINNER: “My filly has speed, but I could see that about four horses were going early, so I decided to just save ground. When we got to the half mile pole, I asked her to pick it up a little and we were able to follow the favorite (stablemate Ancient Secret) around the turn. At the top of the stretch, we were able to get the first jump on her and she gave me a big kick.”
PHIL D’AMATO, STORM THE HILL, WINNER: “She’s been training like a good horse. I mean, she came from a great trainer so all I really had to do was maintain her.
“They were going really fast early and I thought my other filly, Ancient Secret, was in a good spot. But I think Storm the Hill, being a little further off of that fast pace kinda helped her come on strong. They both ran great though, I’m very happy with them.
“I’m going to see how they both bounce out of this. Ancient Secret I’ve run a bunch here so I’ll spot races accordingly down at Del Mar. And, Storm the Hill, we’ll just see what her bottom is. I really don’t know yet. Hopefully just continue to develop the both of them.”
NOTES: The winning owners are Alastar Thoroughbred Company, LLC and Michael Valdes.
