SAN SIMEON STAKES QUOTES – MONDAY DECEMBER 26, 2016

JOCKEY QUOTES

JOEL ROSARIO, BETTYS BAMBINO, WINNER: “The horse broke sharp. I was between horses, so I just stayed there and then when I got clear, I took to the outside. He gave me a good feeling after we left the gate. He just kept level and seemed very confident. You’ve got to give the trainer a lot of credit. This horse had been off a long time. He had him ready to go. I’m just out here for the day and enjoying the holiday.”

NORBERTO ARROYO JR., STORMY LIBERAL, SECOND: “I think [Stormy Liberal] ran good. He was really second best and you’ve got to give credit to the winner. My horse was feeling good, acted good going into the gate and he put me in a good position. It was just down to the end and I can’t take that away from the winner.”

VICTOR ESPINOZA, RICHARD’S BOY, THIRD: “He ran his race. He missed the break a little bit. He’s usually pretty quick out of the gate, but today he kind of missed the break, and I sat back and tried to make a late run, and almost got second. If he could have broken more like he usually does, it would have been different.”

TRAINER QUOTES

PETER EURTON, BETTYS BAMBINO, WINNER: “It’s hard to give horses that only have 10 starts some preps but it was a great race. After his last race he came up with a suspensory so we did a scan and he had a little lesion, nothing horrible. So, we did a little PRP on him, he took six months off and he came back training great for the race. No issues whatsoever. We had to give him the normal time off to recover and here he is today. It took a lot of waiting and a lot of patience. We could’ve easily given up but that would just be a waste of talent.”

JOE CIAGLIA, CO-OWNER & BREEDER, BETTYS BAMBINO, WINNER: “We’ve been away 22 months and I was just hoping we’d run and then run back in the Cal Cup (Sprint, Jan. 28). This is so amazing. He was one week away from running here last spring and he hurt his shoulder. I can’t believe it. We came from off the pace and there were some good horses in here. Breeding horses like this . . . owning the mare, breeding her and seeing her kids grow up, it’s just an amazing experience. There’s nothing more satisfying.”

NOTES: The winning owners are Sharon Alesia, Michael Mellen (Bran Jam Stable) or Joseph Ciaglia.
