MIKE SMITH, PRIZE EXHIBIT, WINNER: “I was able to get her to relax early and she can be on the rank side. Sometimes, going into a race where there’s not much pace, everyone thinks the same thing and it worked out that way today. We took advantage.
“I got a clear trip today. I’ve been handcuffed the last few times I’ve been on her, with traffic in front of me and never had a clear path. I got her out in the clear today and it was great.
“I think she can go short or long. She’s already shown she can run down the hill and she has such a turn of foot. When she crosses that dirt, I’m sure she explodes. I didn’t get to ride her down the hill, but I think she can go a mile, a mile and a sixteenth as well. As long as you get her covered up and keep her turned off.”
JIM CASSIDY, PRIZE EXHIBIT, WINNER: “We had her in the hill race last week but it came off the grass due to weather. She’s trained so well into this race.
“She trained well going into that hill race but then, her work after that didn’t go was tremendous; over the top good. I worried about that a little but she was fine. She’s a tough girl. She can be tricky. We’ve had to do a lot of different things with her and she’s just been happier lately. We’ve been working her from the gate and she seems to like that.
“She’s somethin’ else.”
DERON PEARSON, OWNER, PRIZE EXHIBIT, WINNER: “She finally got the trip that she needed. Mike rode her perfectly. I think she got the ground that she wanted and it worked out well.
“These graded races are always difficult to win. There’s always a tough horse and usually tough to get a good trip. I was a little concerned the pace was too slow, but she’s got the best kick of any of these horses in the race and she showed it today.”
