KENDRICK CARMOUCHE, SCUBA, WINNER: “We broke a step slow today. I just wanted to get him into the race and let him get into stride and in position. When I knew it was time to go, we took command and I knew I had a lot of horse and we accelerated with an eighth of a mile to go. I just pretty much rode him out from there. He’s a really good horse. I thank Mr. Ross and Brendan Walsh for the opportunity. They have a niche for the distance races. I am just so pleased that Mr. Ross has stuck with me for the past 10 years of my career. I was at Santa Anita one other time about seven years ago, but I never made it to the horse shoe. I have two more races to ride tomorrow.
BRENDAN WALSH, SCUBA, WINNER: “I think the pace was favorable. The horse was keen enough to go on and get on with it and they left him alone to an extent. It worked out great. He’s just a great horse. He’s won three times in a row in three states in the best of company. He’s just remarkable.”
NOTES: Walsh is 42, from Cork, Ireland, and this is his fifth year training. He won the Marathon two years ago with Cary Street. The winning owner, DARRS, Inc., lists its residence as Vienna, Va.
