JOE TALAMO, DR. DORR, WINNER: “He handled the distance, no problem. He was very professional, stalked that horse and when I asked him there, he really took off. It was great to see him finish up like that. He’s scary-good right now, that’s for sure. This was really special, because my Mom and Dad came out to see the baby (boy, Dominic Anthony, who was born April 19) and they were here in the Winner’s Circle. Winning this race with a horse like this is a real bonus for all of us.”
STEWART ELLIOTT, PRINCE OF ARABIA, SECOND: “My horse is improving and he ran well, the winner was just too much for everyone today. He fought real hard for second money, I just wish we could’ve had a faster pace.”
BOB BAFFERT, DR. DORR, WINNER: “I give a lot of credit to Talamo. He rode him very patiently and he rode him like he’s a good horse. I was really surprised myself the way he kicked into gear.
“I really thought he was a Derby horse which is why I named him after Dr. Dorr, such a great guy. I was going to run him in the Los Al Futurity but then he got hurt, so I had to give him time off. I got him back and then he had something with his throat so we did throat surgery…he’s spent more time at the horse spa. Finally now…All that patience that I’m able to have owning him, and now he’s a hundred percent. Those are three outstanding races that he’s run here so that’s’ pretty impressive, I give him credit.
“The Gold Cup (Grade I, 1 ¼ miles on May 26) might be the next race, it’s a good spot. It was really good that he didn’t need the lead today, that was good.”
JILL BAFFERT, OWNER, DR. DORR, WINNER: “I was pretty nervous but when I looked at the tote board and he was ½ I was more nervous! I don’t like that pressure. It’s a lot of expectations, although he didn’t know it, thank goodness.
“Dr. Dorr, for who he is named, is a really amazing person. He and his wife are great, not only in his career but they started a non-profit called operation walk. They go all over the world and they’ve performed countless surgeries with hip and knee replacements for people that otherwise would never be able to get them.
“Now, there are operation walks all over the country but it was his brain child. I was just so sorry he couldn’t be here today so I hope he’s watching!”
