FLAVIEN PRAT, TOINETTE, WINNER: “We had a pretty good trip. The pace was strong and I wasn’t expecting that. She was comfortable the whole way and gave me a nice kick turning for home.
“Neil did a great job coming into today’s race and she was ready.”
MIKE SMITH, STREAK OF LUCK, THIRD: “I thought she ran a brilliant third, I really did. I was in a good spot around the turn and when the winner came to us, it kind of took the wind out of her sails. She’s gonna win one of these.”
NEIL DRYSDALE, TRIANER TOINETTE, WINNER: “I was concerned about the 14-horse field and I thought she was very well ridden. We had a fast pace and that did set it up a bit. This is a very nice filly. She was injured in the Belmont Oaks (most recent start on July 7).”
KEN BACA, PART-OWNER TOINETTE, WINNER: “Sure. We were a little nervous coming off the layoff since it’s her first time back so we weren’t sure. But, the Grade III that she won, the Edgewood, she really showed she has another gear.
“She had a lot of ground to make up but she did it well and she did it at her own pace. I was really happy with that ride.
“I think it was also surprised at the pace setup. We had a lot to catch up to but she was able to turn it up so, we were happy to take that win.
“I think we’ll just wait and see how she comes out of this race and we’ll pick it after we think about it.”
NOTES: The winning owners are Ken Baca, Lisa Hawkins, Nicholas Hawkins, Joseph Hudson, and Lynne Hudson.
