Handicapping, in short, refers to analyzing the race to come up with best predicted outcome, or pick. There are many angles when it comes to picking a winner. Using some of the help from the professional handicappers below, you can determine your own angle on placing a bet. For more information on how to bet or wager, click here.
The 1st race looks like a good spot for #4 You Is What You, who drops a notch after failing as the favorite in a $16,000 affair last month. On numbers, he looks pretty solid, but normally I won’t play a horse dropping in claiming value after winning (or in this case finishing second) for a higher claiming price in his last start. Many of them do win, but few offer wagering value. This Hollendorfer-trained colt is 2-1 on the morning line and likely will go lower.
A nice Pick-6 carryover in excess of $81,000 to aim for on this Friday the 13th and the card looks playable.
We’ll kick things off in the 3rd race with a single, #5 Natural Touch. The veteran gelding makes his first start since being claimed by Peter Miller and drops to the bottom after sitting out his jail term. He switches to Baze, adds blinkers and should be along in time at 3-1 on the morning line.
Today’s early double doesn’t look very attractive. #3 Kicken Vixen figures to be an odds-on winner in the opener, and #3 Rare Nugget and #5 Wood Art look like the main contenders in the 2nd race. That adds up to a pretty chalky payoff.
#2 Wineshine has much in his favor in today’s 1st race, but at 9/5 on the morning line and likely to go lower, he doesn’t represent much value. However, the 2nd race looks like a wide open affair and if you’re playing the early Daily Double, you might consider using Wineshine in the opener with #3 Frangipanni, #5 Julia M, and #7 Udriga, all of whom should be decent prices. Frangipanni drops to the bottom and represents a late threat off her best race.

Dunkirk will have jockey Garrett Gomez aboard when he makes his next start in the Florida Derby on the last Saturday of March. Gomez and his agent, Ron Anderson, will have the opportunity to gauge this colt’s performance against that of 2nd rated Pioneerof the Nile, who will be a short priced favorite when he returns to action this Saturday in the San Felipe Stakes.
