The following are key performances from the week of Jan. 6-10 at Santa Anita:

Thursday, January 14, 2010 - 10:43

Another day with small fields and cheap races – they save the good stuff for the weekends – so let’s try to string together a few rolling pick-3s and make it all worthwhile.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010 - 00:57

There were only 56 horses entered on today’s eight race program, so finding a decent price play won’t be easy. Maybe stringing together a few rolling exotics can produce a profitable afternoon.

Sunday, January 10, 2010 - 02:34

Sunday’s opener is an unplayable five-horse maiden race that finds #5 Nicole H, a good second in her debut, listed at even money on the morning line. She goes from inside to outside for a trainer who is excellent with second time starters and should enjoy a very easy front running trip. No value, so we’ll pass.

Saturday, January 9, 2010 - 03:19

The Pick-6 carryover of $76,179 adds spice to a strong 9-race program and there will be plenty of price opportunities to bolster a potentially lucrative payoff.

Friday, January 8, 2010 - 10:06

A strong Friday program begins rather meekly with a five horse expensive maiden claimer for 3-year-ods. #2 Cape Finisterre is the 8/5 morning line choice after finishing an okay fourth in a very fast, highly-rated straight maiden dash, and he seems sure to improve with the class drop and the race under his belt. But #4 Drink At Last Call owns essentially the same pattern and he’s 9/5 on the morning line. Take your pick, we’ll pass.
