Handicapping, in short, refers to analyzing the race to come up with best predicted outcome, or pick. There are many angles when it comes to picking a winner. Using some of the help from the professional handicappers below, you can determine your own angle on placing a bet. For more information on how to bet or wager, click here.

The opener for a typical Thursday program provides little in the way of value. #4 Recess, a beaten choice in her last three starts, is listed at 4/5 on the morning line, and looks it. We can’t trust her, so we’ll pass.

We’ll pick our spots today, passing both Pick-4s because two of the races in the scheme, I’m sorry to say, are beyond my handicapping abilities. We still can make the day worthwhile by isolating a few exactas and a couple of Pick-3 plays.

Sunday’s program begins with a soft maiden claimer for older fillies and mares and we’ll use #2 Irish Pepper and #8 Champagneandlilies in an exacta box and in our early rolling exotics. Irish Pepper is the best of the known element, having finished in the money in each of her last four starts and is clearly overdue for a win. She’s soft on numbers, but retains Bejarano and should be in the thick of things again. Champagneandlilies, originally purchased for $32o,000 as a yearling, debuts at the bottom so obviously she’s had her problems.

The rains came overnight and of this writing we’re unsure if the races will remain on turf. We’ll handicap for grass, and keep our figures crossed.

The Friday program begins with a rolling exotic single - #2 Tallahsocean. Beaten recently by a head in a strong race for the level, the Hess-trained mare retains Bejarano, has the closing style that should be perfectly suited for this extended sprint trip, and can be expected to fire another big shot given the patient ride she needs. Genuine and consistent, the daughter of Ocean Sound has finished first or second in 7 of 13 career starts.
