A Pick-6 carryover of $119,278 makes the Santa Anita President’s Day Monday program a “must play.”

A strong Sunday program starts with a better than average turf miler affair for older maidens. #6 Snaps showed some ability last year but today makes his first start since joining the Richard Mandella barn, and has trained like a much improved type of late. He also has the “blinkers off” angle working for him. We like him on top but in rolling exotic play we’ll also include #5 Scarly Charly, improving with racing, adding blinkers for the first time, and switching to Smith.

The Thursday program begins with a bottom-rung middle distance claimer that presents little in the way of wagering value. #6 Anaaba Premium hasn’t won a race since September of ’12 (at Pomona) but he seems in good form following a solid runner-up try against a slightly tougher band last month. In a race without much pace, #7 Liberty Cap should be within range and ready to pounce. These are the two we’ll use in our rolling exotics but we’re not planning to get too heavily involved.
