Jeff Siegel's Prime Picks for Friday, Feb. 27
We don’t have much to work with in the early Daily Double. Class dropping #4 Brendolyn should be odds-on in the opener and if she’s half right she’ll be hard to beat. #2 Shebang has run well over the course in the past and if the favorite doesn’t fire, she’s the logical beneficiary. In the 2nd race, both #2 Ditto This and #6 Dances With Tigers are racing in good from and it would be somewhat of a surprise if the winner wasn’t one of those two. Not much value, though. The 3rd race kicks of the Pick-6 (no carryover today) and #5 Sognatore is the one to beat and likely short priced choice following a good runner up effort over the course last month for Frankel. Use him in the exotics with #3 Figeac, who adds blinkers and has a bullet work showing over at Hollywood Park since his last race. He’s run well on turf and might be the speed of the speed. The 4th race has three main contenders topped by #4 Fine Time to Leave, who has worked splendidly for Mitchell since a promising debut. Use her along with the debuting #4 Sindyfromsantacruz, another Mitchell trainee with good works and #7 Closing Speed, who drops into a claimer for the first time, adds blinkers and returns to the main track. We’ll double the 5th race using #5 Uncle Jeep and #7 Form a Posse. The former takes a significant class drop and seems sure to improve at this level, while the latter stretches out again and looks like the best of the closers. The 6th race is a maiden downhill turf dash and we’ll use just two runners, #3 Kaptain Kordough and #5 Raise the River. Kaptain Kordough is a route to sprint play and switches to Nakatani; look for him to do his best work in the lane. Raise the River has winning connections, exits a hot race, has trained well of late and seems better than shown. He’s the one to beat. The 7th race boils down to #3 Sayit and #5 Masterful Miss. Sayit hasn’t been out since Del Mar but she’s trained like she’s fit and ready for Cerin and has run well fresh in the past. Masterful Miss is approaching her best form, gets Rosario, and should be very dangerous from off the pace. The 8th race brings out our most probable winner on the program, #2 Well Monied. The daughter of Maria’s Mon gets the good rail for her first try on turf, and with two sprints under her belt, she should be ready to stretch out and show her best stuff. She’s 7/2 on the morning line and we’d take that right now if we could.
