JOE TALAMO, INCLUDE ME OUT, WINNER: “I think my horse handled the track really well today. She’s by Include, who I think liked the mud. I figured, like daughter, like father, hopefully. She handled it well and I was loaded the whole way. I appreciate the connections giving me the opportunity on this horse.”
MARTIN GARCIA, ELLAFITZ, FOURTH: “I don’t know what happened. I guess she just didn’t like the track because she is better than she ran today. It wasn’t her day. She did not fire like she normally does. She was good until the three-eighths pole, and when I asked her to go she didn’t respond like she usually does. I just don’t think she liked the mud.”

RON ELLIS, INCLUDE ME OUT, WINNER: “I had a lot of confidence in her, the way she was training. She was improving in leaps and bounds. I was just worried about the race track. She’s got a lot of heart and I know the way she was loping along back there she was going to give it a run at the three-eighths. That’s where she likes to make her move and it turned out to be the winning move.
“This filly’s not slow. It’s been a work in progress to get to this point but it all paid off. She’s run a lot. We were playing catch up a little bit on experience (explaining why he skipped the Santa Maria on Feb. 18). We’d run her every three weeks for quite a while . . . I just knew my filly was going to run huge. That’s all I knew. I wasn’t worried about the favorite. I knew my filly would run a big race and she did.”

MIKE MARLOW, ASSISTANT TO BOB BAFFERT, ELLAFITZ, 4-5 FAVORITE, FOURTH AND LAST: “The fractions seemed OK. I only thing I can say is maybe she didn’t like the off track.“

NOTES: The winning owner is Samantha Siegel of Beverly Hills.
