VICTOR ESPINOZA, JOHN JOHNY JAK, WINNER: “I thought it was going to be easy at the top of the stretch. I let him open up but the horse on the inside was game and kept coming back to stay right with me. I had to calculate my timing right at the wire. This horse is always in the money, he’s always there.”

KRISTIN MULHALL, JOHN JOHNY JAK, WINNER: “He ran super. He ran a good race last time and came out of the race great. I’m just happy we’re here. It definitely was (a tough battle through the stretch). I thought there was going to be a little more pace and I thought Monterey Jazz was going to go out there, and he relaxed next to us. But he’s (John Johny Jak) the kind of horse that when he gets head and head, at times he’ll pull himself up a little bit. He likes to be able to chase after a horse a little bit and it looks like Victor had to work pretty hard on him.”
Next up? “We’re planning on running in the Citation (Handicap at Hollywood Park Nov. 26, Grade II,
1 1/16 miles on turf).

NOTES: The winning owners are Rustin and Julianna Kretz from Stevenson Ranch, CA.
